International News Inside Rehearsals for Sydney’s Evita Starring Tina Arena and Paulo Szot Grab a sneak peek of the Australian company performing the Andrew Lloyd Webber hit.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita hits Australia next month, featuring Australian pop star Tina Arena as the titular Eva Perón and Tony winner (and Playbill travel alum) Paulo Szot as Juan Perón.

“Already the musical score is so beautifully rich, but then when you add human spirit to that equation that score comes alive,” says Arena in the video above.

Directed by Harold Prince, who won a Tony for his direction of the original 1979 Broadway production, Evita begins performances at the Sydney Opera House September 13 through November 3. The production will then continue on to Melbourne for a run from December 5 through January 6 at the Arts Centre Melbourne. Prince has made previous mentions of bringing the original staging of Evita back to New York by way of an international tour.

The Australian company also features Kurt Kansley as Che, Michael Falzon as Magaldi, Alexis van Maanen as Mistress, and Jemma Rix as the alternate Eva Perón, as well as Justin Anderson, Anton Berezin, Michael Camilleri, Olivia Carniato, Rachel Cole, Alie Coste, Jade Coutts, Kristian Crowe, Todd Dewberry, Rodney Dobson, Samantha Dodemaide, Laura Field, Zoy Frangos, Ashleigh Gurnett, Kate Maree Hoolihan, Georgina Hopson, Thomas Johansson, Kathleen Moore, Thern Reynolds, Christopher Scalzo, David Sirianni, Tod Strike, Simon Tichelaar, Dean Vince, Rachael Ward, and Paul Whiteley. The children’s ensemble includes Jack Barton, BeBe Liu Brennan, Alysiah Carlino, Julien Daher, Jacob Drew, Paige Hewlett, Robbi Morgan, Allerah Murdock, William Oakley, Pamelia Papacosta, Benjamin Park, Sara Petrovski, Raffaella Reid, Avaleigh Rock, Amelie Rose, Austin Taylor, Oliver Trus, and Zoe Zantey.

The production features choreography by Larry Fuller, production design by Timothy O’Brien, lighting design by Richard Winkler, sound design by Mick Potter, video and projection design by Duncan McLean, orchestrations by David Cullen, and musical supervision by Guy Simpson.
