As reported by Playbill On-Line in June, Jackie Mason's long-awaited return to Broadway will happen Nov. 16, when he brings Much Ado About Everything to the John Golden Theatre for an open run. An official opening date has yet to be announced.
The Mason booking was scheduled long before this week's announcement that Side Man, the current Golden Theatre tenant, would end its long run Oct. 31, after 549 regular performances.
As for Mason, his show has been touring such venues as the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center in Nyack, NY, Westbury Music Fair and the Laff Stop in Houston, TX.
Stand-up comedian Mason has had four long-runs on Broadway: The World According to Me, Jackie Mason Brand New, Politically Incorrect and Love Thy Neighbor.
Mason's comedy, delivered in a borscht-belt cantorial style that runs from bemusement to mock anger, generally deals with such subjects as politicians, urban annoyances, and differences between Jews and gentiles.
