When Michael Grandage agreed to take over (beginning Dec. 1) the Donmar Warehouse, he made clear that (like Sam Mendes before him) he would continue to undertake other freelance projects — especially at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
True to his word, he is bringing his Crucible production of Shakespeare's late masterpiece The Tempest to the Old Vic, for a short run from Jan. 13 to March 15, 2003.
The production will continue to star Sir Derek Jacobi as Prospero. The role was immortalized on film ("Prospero's Books") by Sir John Gielgud, and is a wonderful role for an older actor.
