News   Jacques Brel to Play San Francisco in 2008 Producer Dan Whitten announced June 26 that the acclaimed Off-Broadway revival of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris will play the Marin Theatre Company in 2008.

The revue of Brel's often-poetic songs will fill the final slot in the Marin's 2007-2008 season, playing May 22-June 15, 2008. An extension to August is possible.

Gordon Greenberg, who directed the Off-Broadway production of Brel, will repeat his work for San Francisco audiences. Casting has yet to be announced.

In a statement, producer Whitten said, "I am thrilled that we have found a home for the first production of Brel following its successful New York run. I know that there are many fans of Jacques Brel's music living in the Bay Area, so I am really pleased to be able to share Brel with them."

Whitten is also in discussion with South Florida's New Vista Theatre Company for a production of Brel. Also under consideration are productions in Boston, Atlanta, Tel Aviv, Chicago, Montreal, London and South Korea.

Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris played its final performance at the Zipper Theatre Feb. 25. The musical revue played a total of 384 performances. Song titles included "Le Diable (Ca Va)," "Alone," "I Loved," "Jackie," "My Childhood," "Madeleine," "Bachelor's Dance," "Fanette," "Le Moribund," "The Desperate Ones," "Timid Frieda," "The Statue," "Sons of," "Amsterdam," "The Bulls," "Brussels," "Ne Me Quitte Pas," "The Middle Class," "Old Folks," "Funeral Tango," "My Death," "Marieke," "Song for Old Lovers," "Next," "You're Not Alone," "Carousel" and "If We Only Have Love."
