News   Jeremy Jordan, Hal Holbrook, Rebecca Naomi Jones Set for Sonnet Rep's Cabaret Honoring Gerald Freedman Sonnet Repertory Theatre will present its Tenth Annual Benefit and Cabaret, this year celebrating the career of director and teacher Gerald Freedman, Nov. 14 at Joe's Pub.

The 7 PM event will feature Jennifer Ferrin (The 39 Steps), Penny Fuller (Cabaret, Applause), Hal Holbrook (The Apple Tree, Man of La Mancha), Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot), Jeremy Jordan (Bonnie & Clyde, West Side Story), Kevin Kline (Cyrano de Bergerac, Henry IV), Terrence Mann (The Addams Family, Lennon), Estelle Parsons (Good People, August: Osage County), Austin Pendleton (The Diary of Anne Frank, Grand Hotel), Price Waldman (The Little Mermaid), musical director John Mauceri (Candide) and writer-lyricist Alfred Uhry (Lovemusik, Parade). There will also be special video tributes from Olympia Dukakis (Rose, Social Security) and Chita Rivera (West Side Story, Nine, The Rink).

Freedman made his Broadway directorial debut in 1961 with The Gay Life. He has also directed Broadway productions of West Side Story, A Time for Singing, King Lear, The Creation of the World and Other Business, The au Pair Man and The School for Scandal, among others. He was director of the Off-Broadway production of Hair, which opened at the Public Theater in 1967.

Freedman was the leading director of Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival from 1960 through 1971 (the last four years as artistic director), and the first American director invited to direct at London’s Globe Theatre. He is currently the dean of the School of Drama at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
