Part of the BBC's Friday Night Is Music Night series, the Herman concert — hosted by John Barrowman — is scheduled to air 7:30-9:15 PM UK time. The concert featured the talents of Maria Friedman, Debbie Gravitte, Clarke Peters, Don Pippin, Capital Voices and composer Herman himself. Singers were backed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, which was conducted by Larry Blank.
Among the Herman classics that were heard in the one-night-only event were "I Am What I Am," "The Best of Times," "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," "Before The Parade Passes By," "Tap Your Troubles Away" "Hello Dolly" and "I Won't Send Roses."
One of the theatre's most celebrated composers, Jerry Herman has written the scores for such Broadway musicals as Milk and Honey; Hello, Dolly!; Mame; Dear World; Mack & Mabel; The Grand Tour and La Cage aux Folles. He also contributed songs to A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, and revues of his work include Jerry's Girls and An Evening with Jerry Herman. The songwriter won Tony Awards for his scores for Hello, Dolly! and La Cage aux Folles.
