Joyce DiDonato is the latest performer to join the star-studded cast of White Rabbit Red Rabbit; the Grammy Award winner and international opera star will perform October 3.
The acclaimed solo play by Nassim Soleimanpour has attracted a stellar line-up of guest performers since it began Off-Broadway this spring, including Darren Criss, Michael Urie and Ramin Karimloo, who each performed the show in August. Slated for September are Tony winner Billy Porter (September 12), Justin Bartha (September 19) and Stana Katic (September 26).

White Rabbit Red Rabbit plays Monday nights at the Westside Theatre with a rotating cast. Weekly, a different actor is handed a script to perform without the help of a director, rehearsals or a set. Previous performers include Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg, Patrick Wilson, Brian Dennehy, Wayne Brady, Mike Birbiglia, Cynthia Nixon, Kyra Sedwick, Martin Short, Bobby Cannavale, David Hyde Pierce, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Alan Cumming and George Takei.
Forbidden to leave his country, Iranian playwright Soleimanpour transcribed his experience of isolation into this unique stage work. The play premiered at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it won a series of awards. It has since been translated into 15 different languages and performed globally; the show made its Off-Broadway debut March 7. “This wildly entertaining and thought-provoking theatrical piece – where no audience can see the same show twice - blends drama, comedy and social experiment,“ state press notes.
The show is presented by Maberry Theatricals in support of PEN International, working to promote literature and defend freedom of expression around the world. “We are thrilled to be working with such an extraordinary group of performers, and to be partnering with PEN International, on such an intriguing and provocative work,“ said lead producers Devlin Elliott and Tom Kirdahy in a press statement. “Each night will bring its share of surprises. We can't wait to be surprised ourselves. Remember, no cheating! Don't google this play!“
