The 92nd Street Y celebrates 64 years May 24 with "Dance!", a showcase of some of the famous companies and dancers that first got their start at the Y. Donald McKayle will host the evening which travels from folk dance to ballet and theatre greats.
Among the dancers will be Janet Eilber, Gemze DeLappe, David Parsons, Michael Kessler, Fosse's Jane Lanier, Michael Paternostro and Alex Sanchez, Judith Jamison, Stomp, Carmen De Lavallade, Sophie Maslow, Anna Sokolov, Pauline Koner and members of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and Alvin Ailey.
Numbers to be performed include Graham's Lamantations/Appalachian Spring, DeMille's "Come to Me, Bend to Me" (Brigadoon), Parsons' Caught and "Steam Heat" from The Pajama Game.
Charles Repole directs the 8PM performance, which follows dinner at 6PM.
A center for all kinds of performance, the 92nd Street Y has been a home for dance and movement pieces, series like the "Lyrics and Lyricists" song books, lectures and educational tours. The 92nd Street Y is located 1395 Lexington Avenue.
