News   La Boheme Troupers Will Sing to Benefit New Musicals, Dec. 16 in NYC Members of the cast of Baz Luhrmann's La Bohème on Broadway will perform at a gala to raise funds for the National Music Theatre Network and the Broadway Theater Institute's Musical Mondays Theatre Lab, two groups committed to new musicals.

Members of the cast of Baz Luhrmann's La Bohème on Broadway will perform at a gala to raise funds for the National Music Theatre Network and the Broadway Theater Institute's Musical Mondays Theatre Lab, two groups committed to new musicals.

The evening of show tunes, pop songs and opera pieces will be held at the duplex apartment of actress and producer Mary Ellen Ashley. Ashley is active with both the not-for-profit organizations.

Tim Jerome, who heads the National Musical Theatre Network, is in the cast of the lavish Broadway production of Puccini's La Bohème. Jerome will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening. His credits range from playing one of the original Broadway Rothschild brothers in The Rothschilds to Belle's father in Beauty and the Beast.

Jerome plans further charitable events for the group  of singers whom he dubs "The Bohemians."  The group is made up of leads as well as ensemble players from the Broadway company.

Among those expected to perform are Eugene Branconveanu (Marcello), Jessica Comeau (Musetta), David Miller (Rodolfo), Daniel Okulitch (Schaunard), Christina Arand (Musetta U/S), Janinah Burnett (Mimi U/S), Marcus Nance (ensemble), Daniel Neer (ensemble), Laurice Lanier (ensemble), Vanessa Conlin (ensemble). At press time, the following repertoire from both musical theatre and opera was scheduled:

  • Laurice Lanier: Kern and Hammerstein's "Can't Help Lovin' That Man"

  • Daniel Okulitch: Aria from Dead Man Walking
  •  

     

  • Vanessa Conlin: The Jewel Song from Gounod's Faust
  •  

     

  • Eugene Brancoveanu and his wife will perform a duet with his wife from Pagliacci
  •  

     

  • Janinah Burnett: a song from the popular repertoire
  •  

     

  • Lawrence Craig & David Miller: duet from Bizet's Pearlfishers. Tickets for the event are $95. The cost is tax deductible.
