The La Jolla Summerfest will include performances of new works by Lalo Shifrin and Mark O'Connor performed by their composers, the San Diego-area festival announced.

The festival, which runs August 4-21, also includes visits from Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, cellist Lynn Harrell, violinist Gil Shaham, pianist Andr_ Watts, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra with violinist and music director Richard Tognetti,

Artistic director Cho-Liang Lin appears several times, performing on the violin with Shifrin, O'Conner, the ACO, and Watts.

Contemporary works on the schedule include Shifrin's Letters From Argentina, in its California premiere; Christopher Rouse's Second Quartet and Compline; and O'Connor's Appalachia Waltz Trio and String Quartet No. 2 ("Bluegrass").
