Classic Arts News La Scala Orchestra President Resigns Fedele Confalonieri, president of the orchestra at Teatro alla Scala, resigned on April 11, the BBC News reports.
Confalonieri, who also resigned his seat on the orchestra's board of directors, gave no reason for his departure in the statement released by Mediaset, a broadcaster run by Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and the company of which Confalonieri is president.

The departure of Confalonieri is the latest episode in a chaotic period at La Scala. The turmoil began when the theater's governors fired general manager Carlo Fontana, setting off a series of strikes by La Scala's workers and musicians, and leading to the resignation of music director Riccardo Muti on April 2.

Confalonieri's successor has not yet been announced.
