Country star Larry Gatlin's new musical, Texas Flyer will have its final performance on June 21. The show, about a quiet Texas cafe owner who has distanced himself from life, debuted May 26 at the Bristol Riverside Theatre in Bristol, PA, the same theatre which housed his previous foray into musical theatre, 1994's Alive and Well. Gatlin starred on Broadway in The Will Rogers Follies. Gatlin plays the lead role. Supporting Gatlin are Susan Powell, a former Miss America, and Richard White, who provided the voice of Gaston in the animated film Beauty and the Beast. Also in the cast are George Riddle, Danette Cuming, Bethe B. Austin, and John Henry Redwood. Susan D. Atkinson will direct. The show is set to run through June 14. Gatlin joins an ever-growing list of music stars setting their sights on the theatre. Recent months have seen pop singer-songwriters such as Paul Simon, Elton John, and Barry Manilow pen works for the stage. A new musical by Donna Summer is scheduled to debut in England this fall.
