  • Blithe Spirit (On Broadway at the Shubert Theatre). Stage legend Angela Lansbury earned her fifth Tony Award for her portrayal of dotty psychic Madame Arcati, who is enlisted by Charles Condomine (Rupert Everett in his Broadway debut) to conjure the ghost of his first wife, Elvira (portrayed by two-time Tony winner Christine Ebersole) in the Noël Coward favorite.   • Les Éphémères (Lincoln Center Festival at the Park Avenue Armory). France's acclaimed Le Théâtre du Soleil, under the direction of Ariane Mnouchkine, present the arresting two-part work that depicts the ordinary moments of human connection, many of which go unnoticed, that thread our lives.
