Keir Dullea, of "2001: A Space Odyssey" fame, stars as Sydney Bruhl in Ira Levin's thriller, Deathtrap, closing July 17 at Maine's Ogunquit Playhouse. Performances began July 5.
Dullea starred as the space-suited commander Dave Bowman in Stanley Kubrick's landmark movie. He also appeared in the film "David and Lisa." On Broadway, he has appeared in Butterflies Are Free and as Brick in the Elizabeth Ashley revival of Cat of a Hot Tin Roof. He last appeared at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Outward Bound in 1983. His most recent stage appearances were in Double Act with Bonnie Franklin at New Hampshire's American Stage Festival and as Lopakhin in The Cherry Orchard at PA's Bristol Riverside Theatre in Feb. 1999.
Joining Dullea in Deathtrap is his real-life wife, Mia Dillon, playing his on-stage wife Myra Bruhl. (According to spokespersons at the Ogunquit Playhouse, Dullea and Dillon were married just two weeks before Deathtrap began rehearsals.) Dillon's Broadway credits include originating roles in Crimes of the Heart and Da. She was also the very first Agnes in Agnes of God, when that show started in Louisville in 1980.
Also in the Deathtrap cast are Jeffries Thaiss as Clifford Anderson, Elizabeth Parrish as Helga ten Dorp and Thomas Carson as Porter Milgrim.
Tickets ($25) are available by calling (207) 646-5511. The Ogunquit Playhouse is on the web at http://www.ogunquitplayhouse.org. Following Deathtrap will be A Majority of One starring the play's original Off-Broadway stars, Phyllis Newman and Randall Duk Kim. Majority plays July 19-31.
