Gold Rush!, the free children's musical presented by Theatreworks/USA at the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse, closes Aug. 7. Performances began July 22. Set in California, the Dick Gallagher-Mark Waldrop-David Armstrong musical follows a group of gold seekers from all over the United States and the world as they try to strike it rich in the 1840s West. Gallagher and Waldrop co-wrote three Howard Crabtree pieces, Whoop-Dee-Doo!, Whatnot and When Pigs Fly. Armstrong co-created the Cole Porter revue Hot n' Cole with Waldrop, as well as co-writing the musical The Wonder Years.
