Last Chance to catch Propeller Theatre's mounting of a solo performance based on a radio documentary by the late pianist virtuoso Glenn Gould. The Idea of North, starring Michael John Carley and directed by downtown favorite Steven Rattazzi, plays at the HERE Performance Art Cafe off-off-Broadway through Sept. 26.

Commissioned by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation in the mid-1960s, The Idea of North, is the first installment of three radio documentaries entitled, "The Solitude Trilogy." North, which started performances Sept. 9, comprises a series of interviews (arranged in a verbal fugue by Gould) with people who have lived in the freezing frontier of Canada's high north.

Carley is a playwright, director and performer. He was playwright-in- residence for Arden Party for two years, with plays including Boris Simonov and the Last Frontier, Piotr's Magic Radio, In a Name, The Dungeon Opera, Snow Angels, Bo Culcullen Discovers the New World, and Mstislav Dies in the Snow.
