Last Chance to catch Eugene Stickland's comedy, A Guide to Mourning, at Victoria BC's Belfry Theater. The show began previews April 13, opened April 15, and ends its run May 9, after a one-week extension.
A Guide to Mourning features comedy veteran Heath Lamberts, who has been in entertainment for more than 30 years. He created the role of Cogsworth in Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. Lamberts also played King Septimus opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in Once Upon a Mattress. Stickland is a recognized Canadian writer and author of such other plays as Sitting on Paradise and No Assembly Required.
Directed by Roy Surette, Mourning's story delves into a family's pain and vow to do right at their father's funeral. Among the attendees, an enthusiastic clergyman, played by Lamberts. Also featured in the cast are Dean Paul Gibson, Paul Shears, Kelt Eccleston, Lynda Raino and Naomi Snieckus.
A Guide to Mourning recently had a reading at New York's Manhattan Class Company. The company is looking to bring it to New York soon, though no dates have been confirmed.
A Guide to Mourning tickets are $12-$24 and available by calling (250) 385-6815. The show ends Belfry's season, though a rental production of Eric Bogosian's Pounding Nails in the Floor with my Forehead takes the stage in early summer. -- By Angelica Roderick
