LOS ANGELES -- Last chance to catch the world premiere of Tulis McCall's serio-comic, one-person play Running With Scissors, which ends its scheduled run July 7. The show opened June 8 at the Court Theatre in West Hollywood, where it is directed by Philip Proctor.
McCall's new work is a 12-character odyssey that sinks a fork into the concept of family and what that word can mean to people. McCall deals with two families -- one related by blood, the other by location -- and brings to life a gallery of "outrageous folk caught up in the crazy act of living."
Running With Scissors was presented last year as Truth Be Told in a workshop production at the Ventura Court Theatre. McCall wrote and performed the critically-acclaimed 1989 hit, What Everywoman Knows (directed by Joanna Kerns and produced by Dan Lauria) at the West Coast Ensemble. She has performed that one-person play in New York and regionally.
Scissors cuts through the Court, 722 N. La Cienaga Blvd., through July 7. Call (310) 418-8547.
