Forever Dusty (Off-Broadway at New World Stages). Forever Dusty, the new musical by Kirsten Holly Smith and Jonathan Vankin about the life of late singer Dusty Springfield, features co-writer Smith in the title role. She is joined by Christina Sajous, Coleen Sexton, Benim Foster, Sean Patrick Hopkins, Ashley Betton and Jonathan C. Kaplan. Forever Dusty, according to the producers, tells the "compelling and moving story of Dusty's journey, in a dramatic, high-energy musical filled with some of the most exciting pop songs ever written," including "Son of a Preacher Man," "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," "The Look of Love" and many others. The Flick (Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater). The Flick, Annie Baker's study of boredom, yearning and dysfunction in a crew of New England movie-house workers — which received the 2013 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize — features Alex Hanna, Louisa Krause, Matthew Maher and Aaron Clifton Moten. According to PH notes, "In a run-down movie theatre in central Massachusetts, three underpaid employees (Krause, Maher and Moten) mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35-millimeter film projectors in the state. Their tiny battles, and not-so-tiny heartbreaks, more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen, play out in the empty aisles. With keen insight and a finely-tuned comic eye, The Flick is a hilarious and heart-rending cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world." Visit PlaywrightsHorizons.org.

Mr. Irresistible (Off-Broadway at La MaMa E.T.C., First Floor Theatre). Mr. Irresistible features Cindy Goldfield, Ryan Clardy, Leanne Borghes, Stephen DiBlasi, Jacquelyn Graham, Mara Jill Herman, Nicholas Park, Molly Pope and Clayton Dean Smith. Based on Aesop's fable "The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing," Mr. Irresistible, according to press notes, "tells the story of Eileen Morchinsky, a lonely secretary lost in the shuffle of corporate America, the butt of water cooler jokes and living alone in a mouse-infested five-floor walkup, who spots an ad for a fully functioning mechanical male companion. It is then that Eileen decides to stop reading her romance novels and begin living one. When the exterminator, Joey, shows up to wrangle the rodents in her apartment, she mistakes him for her mail-order groom and a tender relationship is born. But the couple's newfound bliss short-circuits when the real Acme Brand Mr. Irresistible finally arrives. Joey is no match for the seemingly perfect specimen of manhood and quickly finds himself single again, while Eileen finds herself in the arms of the man she’s always dreamed of. Her Mr. Irresistible comes fully equipped to make her fantasies come true…the good and the bad." Visit LaMaMa.org.
