2000 New York Drama League nominee Last Train to Nibroc, after a successful stint at Santa Monica's Powerhouse Theatre March 16-April 14, returns to Los Angeles with a new run May 3-June 17 at the Tamarind Theatre. Manbites Dog Theater artistic director Jeff Storer directs the Arlene Hutton drama.
Billed as an old-fashioned romance, Last Train to Nibroc follows two young Kentuckians who meet in 1940 on a train carrying the bodies of Nathanael West and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Raleigh, the man, is inspired to leave Kentucky to seek a literary career in New York. May, on the other hand, wants to return home to maintain her life of diversion.
Author Hutton, a member of the New Dramatists, won the Samuel French Short Play Contest twice, the John Lippman Award and was a finalist for the Actors' Theatre of Louisville's 2000 Heineman Award. Last Train to Nibroc, her first full length play, had a well-received Off-Broadway run.
Adam Saunders is Raleigh with Milly Sanders as May. Saunders' credits include performances with Manbites Dog Theatre and South Coast Repertory.
Designing Last Train are Chris Norkus and Chuck Catotti (sets), Carmen Abrazado (lighting), Kay Webb (costumes) and Edward Hunt (sound). Tickets are $20-$22.50. The Powerhouse Theatre is located at 3116 2nd Street. For reservations, call (310) 358-5956.
