News Laurents' Attacks on the Heart World Premieres Oct. 14 Arthur Laurents' Attacks on the Heart begins its world-premiere engagement at the George Street Playhouse Oct. 14.

Former "Dharma & Greg" star Alan Rachins co-stars with Turkish actress Cigdem Onat in the new play, which runs at the New Jersey theatre through Nov. 9. David Saint directs the politically charged love story from the book writer of Gypsy and West Side Story. Rachins stars as Beecher — an American documentary filmmaker — in Attacks on the Heart. According to release, "Just months before September 11, 2001, [Beecher] has fallen in love with Leyla (Onat), a Turkish woman living in New York City.  Will their love affair end or can they build a future together in post-9/11 America, now that  their world views, religious backgrounds and politics have become so obviously different?"

Arthur Laurents has been an active collaborator at New Jersey's George Street Playhouse for years, since the production of his drama Jolson Sings Again. More recently, he directed Chita Rivera in his play Venecia, and another work, Claudio Lazlo, was also presented at the Playhouse. A production of Do I Hear a Waltz?, Laurents' collaboration with Stephen Sondheim, was produced at the George Street in 1998. In addition to his book-writing credits, Laurents has directed such musicals as Nick & Nora, I Can Get It For You Wholesale and La Cage aux Folles, earning a Tony Award for his direction of the latter. His screenwriting credits boast "The Turning Point," "Rope" and "The Way We Were."

The George Street Playhouse is located in New Brunswick, N.J., at 9 Livingston Avenue. Tickets for the production are available by calling the theatre's box office at (732) 246-7717; for more information, visit www.gsponline.org.
