Legend of the Gypsy Bride, a Gypsy musical extravaganza that uses authentic gypsy melodies from Transylvania and Hungary, will be presented at the Fringe Aug. 14-27. Presented by the Present Company, with book and lyrics by David Jenness, the 15-member Sacred Clowns Performance Orchestra will assume all the play's roles.
A modern day Beggar's Opera, the story follows an alcoholic writer who stumbles upon a band of real Gypsies under a highway in Queens. They weave a darkly comic tale for him about a depressed Gypsy dancer and her suitors. Eventually, the writer gets involved in the Gypsy Bride's search for meaning.
The show plays at the Mazer Theatre, 197 East Broadway. Tickets are $15. Call 212-279-4488 or visit www.fringenyc.org(http://www.fringenyc.org/) for ticket and schedule information.
