According to the Library of Congress, the collection includes photos from Raitt's private collection, as well as decades of scrapbooks, annotated scripts, orchestrations and personal letters. "He would be so thrilled with the resurgence and the exciting new era of enthusiasm for Broadway," his daughter Bonnie Raitt said in a statement. "He would be thrilled, and so am I."
In addition to originating the roles of Billy Bigelow in Carousel and Sid Sorokin in The Pajama Game, Raitt also lent his baritone to such musicals as Annie Get Your Gun, Magdalena, Three Wishes for Jamie, Carnival in Flanders, A Joyful Noise and A Musical Jubilee. Raitt starred in the national tour of Oklahoma!, repeated his work in the film of "The Pajama Game," and appeared in a 1957 television version of "Annie Get Your Gun." He died in February 2005.
