Tony Award winner Liliane Montevecchi (Nine, Grand Hotel) will sing for her supper in the spectacular dinner and theatre presentation, Teatro ZinZanni, beginning Oct. 23. The evening of food, wine, song and circus plays at San Francisco's Pier 27/29 on the Embarcadero. Montevecchi will stay with the production through mid-January.
Combining comedy, food service and the performing arts all under an art nouveau "spiegeltent" imported from Belgium, ZinZanni's evening of "Love, Chaos & Dinner" is also staffed with the world's most dominating Maitre d' (German clown Lutz Jope of Pomp, Duck and Circumstance), an emotional Chef de cuisine (Theatre World Award winner Michael Davis of Sugar Babies), a tap-dancing waiter (Joe Orrach), a maniac wine steward (Eduard Kaufmann) and a dishwasher named Sophie (Bianca Sapetto of Cirque du Soleil's Quidam).
Circus acts added to the evening include hula-hoop champion Mat Plendl, the returning trapeze acting Duo Mouvance and gymnast and dancer Oleg Izossimov.
Before San Francisco, Teatro ZinZanni ran 14 months in Seattle after opening October 1998 near the Seattle Center.
Among the gourmet offerings on the menu are antipasto, roasted fennel parsnip soup, salad with champagne vinaigrette, Cabernet Chicken Chasseur with Lyonnaise potatoes and asparagus and lemon-strawberry trifle for dessert. A vegetable entree is available on request. Teatro Zinzanni began performances March 15, 2000. Tickets are $125. For reservations, call (415) 438-2668.
