The West End company of Chicago will welcome Mazz Murray to the cast at the Phoenix Theatre beginning July 2.

Murray will step into the role of Matron “Mama” Morton the same day the previously announced Martin Kemp becomes the new Billy Flynn. The two actors will join Sarah Soetaert, Josefina Gabrielle, and Paul Rider as Roxie Hart, Velma Kelly, and Amos Hart, respectively.

Kemp steps in for Ruthie Henshall and will stay with the production until September 2, with Soetaert, Gabrielle, Murray, and Rider scheduled through August 11. Tickets are currently on sale through January 5, 2019.

Murray’s previous theatre credits include nine years as Killer Queen in We Will Rock You, as well as Mamma Mia!, Fame, Pippin, and A Girl Called Dusty.

Following a successful U.K. and international tour and after a five-and-a-half year absence from London, the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical began performances at the Phoenix Theatre March 26.

Chicago, which is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by Kander, and lyrics by Ebb. The 1996 Broadway revival was choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse, directed by Walter Bobbie, and produced by Barry and Fran Weissler.
