Playing at the Piccadilly Theatre, Ragtime, based on E.L. Doctorow's novel about three American families and the ways their very different lives interweave, was scheduled to run until September, but will now close on June 14.
With a book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and directed by Stafford Arima, Ragtime was a hit on Broadway, but earned very mixed reviews in London. Maria Friedman stars in the London production in the role of Mother; Marin Mazzie created the role on Broadway.
It is expected that Ragtime will be replaced at the Piccadilly by a transfer of the National Theatre's current hit, Jerry Springer — the Opera.
