The show, which first opened in the West End at the Noel Coward Theatre in June 2006, was originally announced to end its London run permanently on March 28. But after a box office rise that followed that announcement — during which London co-producer Cameron Mackintosh said the show saw "its best box office sales yet and the highest weekly grosses since the production opened in June 2006— it was put on hiatus instead, and resumed performances June 1 at the Gielgud on Shaftesbury Avenue. According to a press statement, "with a tranche of five-star reviews and continuing box office success, Avenue Q remains as fresh and funny as ever prompting producer Cameron Mackintosh to extend what was originally a limited summer run."
Avenue Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx; and is directed by Jason Moore. The puppets are conceived and designed by Rick Lyon; musical supervision is by Stephen Oremus, and choreography by Ken Roberson. Avenue Q's scenic design is by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
Avenue Q is produced in London by Cameron Mackintosh, Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, Vineyard Theatre and The New Group. The show is now booking through Jan. 2, 2010. To book tickets, contact the box office on 0844 482 5141, or visit www.avenueqthemusical.co.uk
