Craig Lucas' Off-Broadway hit The Dying Gaul gets a revival at Seattle's Intiman Theatre with a special emphasis on the play's psychological thriller elements July 20-Aug. 18. The company's artistic director Bartlett Sher (Waste) directs.

Grounded in deceit and sex, The Dying Gaul's love triangle is set between screenwriter Robert, his studio boss Jeffrey, and Jeffrey's wife, Elaine. When Robert and Jeffrey begin an affair based around getting the young writer's script made into a movie, Elaine decides not to ignore it, but instead torture Robert with a twisted game in an internet chat room. Both a playwright and scriptwriter, Lucas' works include God's Heart, Blue Window, Prelude to a Kiss, "Longtime Companion" and "Reckless."

Over the next few months, Lucas will spend some time in the Pacific Northwest. He will remain in residence with Intiman while Dying Gaul plays and will return to Seattle for the workshop of The Singing Forest, a play commissioned by A Contemporary Theatre and set for an Oct. 11-21 trial run on their Bullitt stage. Lucas' This Thing of Darkness, co-written with David Schulner, will also get a workshop at Portland Stage Company's Just Add Water/West playwrights festival July 28-29.

Intiman regular Laurence Ballard is Jeffrey with Jay Goede (Angels in America) as Robert and Myra Platt as Elaine. David Pichette is Foss.

The design team features Andrew Jackness (sets), Candice Donnelly (costumes), Mary Louise Geiger (lighting) and Stephen LeGrand (sound). J.R. Welden is the stage manager. The Dying Gaul opens July 25. Tickets are $42-$10. The Intiman Theatre is located in the Seattle Center at 201 Mercer St. For reservation information, call (206) 269-1900. The Intiman Theatre is on the web at http://www.intiman.org.
