The new disc from LuPone, who is currently starring in the acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, is based on her cabaret/concert act of the same name, which she has performed in New York at Feinstein's at the Regency, in Los Angeles at the Cinegrill and in San Francisco at the Plush Room. The Lady with the Torch was also the title of LuPone's most recent, sold-out Carnegie Hall evening.
Torch was conceived and directed by Scott Wittman and features orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick and musical direction by Chris Fenwick. Fenwick conducts a ten-piece band on the new studio recording.
