PlayBlog Lysistrata Jones Scores a New Broadway Promo (Video) Lysistrata Jones, the pop musical spin on the ancient Greek classic by Aristophanes, was seen this summer on the Off-Broadway basketball court. The musical will now dribble its way to midtown for a Broadway transfer that begins performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre Nov. 12, with an official opening Dec. 14.

Lysistrata Jones is a musical comedy by book writer and Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Sister Act, The Little Dog Laughed) and composer-lyricist Lewis Flinn. The Off-Broadway production was directed and choreographed by Dan Knechtges, who will repeat his work for the Broadway transfer.

Here's how the Off-Broadway production was billed: "The Athens University basketball team hasn't won a game in 30 years. But when spunky transfer student Lysistrata Jones dares the squad's fed-up girlfriends to stop 'giving it up' to their boyfriends until they win a game, their legendary losing streak could be coming to an end."

Lysistrata is the name of one of the women in Aristophanes' ancient Greek anti-war comedy (circa 411 B.C.), about women who withhold sex in order to inspire their men to come home from war.
