Malcolm Gets, remembered for both TV's "Caroline in the City" and William Finn's A New Brain, will record a solo album of theatre and cabaret music for the DRG label, producer Hugh Fordin told Playbill On-Line.
The upcoming disc marks the first solo album by Gets, and will have orchestrations by Peter Matz and musical direction by Wally Harper. Gets is the special guest of Barbara Cook for her Feb. 2 Carnegie Hall concert. Shortly after, he'll record his solo album, which is expected in stores in May.
The Cook concert will also be recorded, live, for the DRG label, with Fordin producing.
Gets' credits have included the brain-surgery patient, Gordon Michael Schwinn, in Finn's A New Brain at Lincoln Center Theater, Michael John LaChiusa's Hello Again at LCT, The Moliere Comedies (Roundabout Theatre Company), the Encores! staging of The Boys From Syracuse and York Theatre Company's Merrily We Roll Along.
