Classic Arts News Marc-Andr_ Dalbavie's Piano Concerto Premieres at BBC Proms The BBC Symphony gives the world premiere of Marc-Andr_ Dalbavie's Piano Concerto at the BBC Proms tonight. Leif Ove Andsnes is the soloist.
The program, conducted by principal guest conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste, also includes Stravinsky's Fireworks and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11 ("The Year 1905"). It will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and will be available for streaming on the BBC web site for the next week.

Dalbavie's concerto was co-commissioned by the BBC, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony. The Cleveland Orchestra, which premiered the composer's Concertate il suono in 2000 and his Rocks Under the Water in 2002, will perform the Piano Concerto in January 2006; the Chicago Symphony will perform it in February 2006. Andsnes will appear in both performances, as well as recording the work for EMI with the Baravian Radio Symphony and conductor Franz Welser-M‹st.

"I love working with him," Andsnes says of Dalbavie on his web site. "I love his imagination. I love how one sound transforms itself into another through a musical chain of events."
