The Kneehigh production of Daniel Jamieson’s The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk, about the magical world of artist Marc Chagall and his wife Bella, will make its U.S. debut beginning February 23 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
Marc Antolin and Daisy Maywood will portray Marc and Bella, whose journey is underscored throughout with live klezmer music inspired by Russian folk tradition, composed and performed by Ian Ross and James Gow.
Directed by Kneehigh Artistic Director Emma Rice (Brief Encounter), the production, which is currently playing London's Wilton's Music Hall, will officially open February 24 and continue through March 11 at the Los Angeles venue. Following Los Angeles, the tour will play the U.K.'s West Yorkshire Playhouse, Salisbury Playhouse, the Spoleto Festival, and more.
“The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk is a beautiful love story,” said Paul Crewes, The Wallis’ artistic director, in a statement. “Emma brings the production to life in her delightfully unique way. It is joyful, sensual, heartbreaking and funny. It is a great to bring the Company back to L.A. with this award-winning production.”
