Center Theatre Group announced the new season on Sept. 7. The new season begins Jan. 11, 2012, and runs through Dec. 30, 2012.

A conditional booking of the Palm Springs-set Other Desert Cities will play Nov. 20-Dec. 30, 2012, with a cast to be announced. Joe Mantello will direct the family drama, as he did Off-Broadway in 2010-11 — and will again on Broadway this fall. "Through CTG's longstanding and close relationship with Jon Robin Baitz and the Broadway producers, CTG has the unique opportunity to present Other Desert Cities, but there may be a shift in the Taper schedule due to the availability of the play and its creative team," according to CTG.

Also on the slate are Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot featuring L.A. actor Alan Mandell and Dublin actor Barry McGovern, directed by Michael Arabian (March 14-April 22, 2012); and David Mamet's comedy about the U.S. president, November (Sept. 26-Nov. 4, 2012).

The world premiere of composer LaChiusa and librettist-lyricist Ellen Fitzhugh's chamber musical, Los Otros, is a CTG commission. It will be directed by multiple Tony Award nominee Graciela Daniel. It involves "distinctly Californian stories that span several decades."

According to CTG, "the first act depicts three defining moments in the life of a Southern California woman, all of them involving chance encounters with Mexican immigrants." The second act "introduces us to a Mexican American man, first as a 12-year-old picking plums in a Central Valley orchard during World War II and finally as a 75-year-old whose mind is failing him." A final duet between the woman and man "reveals their surprising connection and accents the myriad gifts and devotions that have shaped their lives, together and apart." It will run May 23-July 1, 2012. Pam MacKinnon, who staged Clybourne Park Off-Broadway, will again direct the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and Olivier Award-winning play by Bruce Norris. The work (previously announced by CTG) is a riff on the American classic A Raisin in the Sun, set in the white suburban house that is referenced in Lorraine Hansberry's play.

It will open the Taper's new season, running Jan. 11-Feb. 26, 2012. The Taper announcement indicates that the production is Broadway-bound, to open in spring 2012.

As announced, in conjunction with the presentation of Clybourne Park at the Taper, CTG will present the critically acclaimed Ebony Repertory Theatre production of A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Phylicia Rashad, at CTG's Kirk Douglas Theatre, Jan. 19-Feb. 19, 2012.

Tony nominee Molina will reprise his London and Broadway role of Mark Rothko in Red, John Logan's biographical play about the abstract-expressionist painter. Michael Grandage will again direct. It's slated for Aug. 1-Sept. 9, 2012, at the Taper.
