The Acting Company will present a staged reading of John Van Druten’s Bell, Book and Candle Dec. 15 at 7 PM at the Pearl Theater.

The reading will feature four-time Academy Award nominee Marsha Mason, Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin and Acting Company alums Andy Prosky, Chris Thorn and Grant Fletcher Prewitt. Tom Fontana will direct.

Bell, Book and Candle, according to press notes, concerns "a beautiful witch who casts a spell over a publisher when she finds herself quite smitten. One small problem arises: witches cannot fall in love."

The reading will be followed by a reception with the cast and director.

“John Van Druten was one of London’s most successful playwrights of the 1930’s. In America, his I Remember Mama, The Voice of the Turtle and I Am A Camera (the basis for Cabaret) became enduring hits. He also directed the original production of The King and I,” said Margot Harley, producer of The Acting Company, in a statement.

The Pearl Theater is located at 555 West 42nd Street. For tickets, priced $35 and $60, call (212) 258-3111. *
