Terrence McNally's 1996 Tony Award-winning play Master Class is scheduled to premiere in Mexico City April 2 at the Teatro Ramiro Jimenez.
Diana Bracho will portray temperamental opera diva Maria Callas under the direction of Francisco Franco, who directed the current hit play Muerte Subita.
Bracho is a very well known theatre, TV and film Mexican actress. She recently played Blanche in a highly successful revival of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Teatro Helenico.
Also in the Master cast are Ricardo Kleimbaum as Manny, soprano Grace Echauri as Sharon, soprano Carla Madrid as Sophie and tenor Rolando Villason as Tony.
Designing Master Class are Laura Rode (sets) and Kete Cebral (costumes). The musical director will be Ma.Teresa Rodriguez. Master Class ran for more than 500 performances at the John Golden Theatre on Broadway and has been produced worldwide. Zoe Caldwell starred the original Broadway production and was later replaced by Patti LuPone and Dixie Carter. Faye Dunaway portrayed Callas in the U.S. National Tour.
