News MCC Theater and Lucy Thurber Give NYC Teens Showcase with FreshPlay Festival Three teen playwrights will make their New York City debut courtesy of MCC Theater's third annual FreshPlay Festival.

Lucy Thurber and Stephen DiMenna provide artistic direction for this year's festival, which will be presented Aug. 15-18 at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre.

The event will showcase four works nightly with a 7 PM curtain. A talk-back session will follow the Aug. 17 performance.

  "Penned by New York City teens and produced for the stage by a roster of professional directors, actors and designers," according to an announcement, "the FreshPlay Festival is an evening of original one-act plays."

The 2007 FreshPlay Festival offerings follow:

  • The Fishes Dream in January by Jennifer Goris (age 17)
    Jackson Gay directs. "Secrets, sex and a smashed television.  Even a cold New Year's Eve simmers in this sweltering comedic romance."
  • Caught Up by Delilah Rivera (18)
    Lou Moreno directs. "Where do you turn when you've exhausted all your options?  Hungry, forlorn and abandoned by her mother, Roxanne is left with only one resource: herself."
  • Man with Trench Coat by Kyle-Steven Porter (19)
    Michael Barakiva directs. "Nobody notices the man who knows everything; the man who knows everything notices everyone. Just another day in the park…"
  • Then by MCC Theater Youth Company with Lucy Thurber
    Michael Barakiva directs. "Fifteen friends gather for their last drink, their last argument, their last photograph and one last night together before the future – and the present - tears them apart." The design team for FPF features Susan Zeeman-Rogers (set), Eleni Christou (costume), Nicole Pearce (lighting) and Bart Fasbender (sound).

    MCC's upcoming 2007-2008 season will include Jim Knable's Spain (Oct. 10-Nov. 17), Lynn Redgrave in Mick Gordon and AC Grayling's Grace (Jan. 23-March 8, 2008) as well as Joe Iconis and Robert Maddock's The Black Suits (May 14-July 5, 2008).
