Produced by U Shld Only Kno Productions, LLC, A Letter to Harvey Milk is based on the short story of the same name by Leslea Newman. The new musical features a book by Jerry James, music by Laura I. Kramer and lyrics by Ellen M. Schwartz.
Set in 1986 San Francisco, the musical is described as such: "When Harry, a retired kosher butcher, wanders into the writing class taught by Barbara, a young Jewish lesbian, he doesn’t foresee the problems that will arise from sharing his impassioned letter to his late friend Harvey. But Barbara’s demands and Harry’s nightmares are just the beginning. Will love, humor and delicatessen enable him to finally confront his long-buried past? Whatever Harry’s choice, he’ll have plenty of advice from his dead-but-feisty wife and surprisingly, from Harvey Milk."
The production will also feature music direction, orchestrations and arrangements by Ned Paul Ginsburg, choreography by Michael Raine, scenic design by Todd Edward Ivins and lighting design by Grand Yeager. General manager is Lisa Dozier.
