The symposium will focus on the role of orchestration and arranging in the development of new work.
Haupt, who is a co-founder of the O’Neill National Music Theater Conference and has served as its artistic director since 1978, will be joined by veteran panelists including award winning orchestrators Bruce Coughlin, Michael Starobin, Mel Marvin, and LaChiusa on a panel centered around "Dream Orchestrations."
Of the featured composers, Coughlin and Starobin will not only guide discussions around “Dream Orchestrations,” but they will also serve as orchestration mentors and will meet with Jim and Ruth Bauer who are developing a new musical The War Deptartment and Julia Gytri and Avi Amon developing The White City. The new musicals will be featured with staged readings.
In a statement, Haupt said, “This amazing panel will address general concepts on orchestrating, arranging, and the relationship between composers and orchestrators to participants of all programs here this summer. It is another example of the symbiotic relationship that continues to grow between the Music Theater Conference, Playwrights Conference, Critics Institute and Theater Makers programs.”
