Boston Conservatory alum Lauren Spencer-Harris will head the cast as Diana Goodman, the role created on Broadway to Tony-winning effect by Alice Ripley, opposite Andrew John Mitchell as Dan. The cast will also feature Darby McLaughlin as Natalie, Chandler Smith as Gabe, Noah Mogaka as Henry and Kevin Ray Johnson (Manhattan Repertory Theatre's The Unpredictable Times) as Dr. Madden/Fine.
Next to Normal has music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, the writing team currently represented on Broadway with the new musical If/Then.
Next to Normal concerns a mother battling depression and bi-polar disorder and also delves into prescription drug abuse, suicide, grief and the breakdown of an American family.
The Broadway production earned Tony Awards for Best Score (Kitt/Yorkey), Best Orchestrations (Kitt/Michael Starobin) and Best Actress (Alice Ripley).
