Melbourne theatre audiences have embraced another Stephen Sondheim musical, so in view of the great critical and public response to their production of Into the Woods, the Melbourne Theatre Company has announced a one week extension. The season will now conclude on February 28. Under the direction of Roger Hodgman, the show garnered excellent notices and therefore continues MTC's recent tradition of bringing the musicals of Sondheim to Melbourne audiences. With their previous successes Assassins and last year's A Little Night Music, a long overdue admiration for the composer's work has developed in the Victorian capital.

Night Music completed a succesful transfer from the Playhouse to the larger Princess Theatre. Although this will not happen with Into the Woods,it has drawn a wider audience beyond the company's subscribers and ensured continuing speculation about future Sondheim productions.
