The Music-Theatre Group (MTG) has announced plans for a funeral service for Lyn Austin, the group’s late producing director, who was struck down by a cab while crossing Eighth Avenue late Sunday evening, Oct. 29. (Police reports filed on Oct. 30 initially led many to believe the accident had occurred after midnight.)
The funeral service for Austin will be held on Nov. 4 at 2 PM, at St. James Church, located at 71 St. and Madison Avenue.
“There is going to be an announcement about a memorial tribute later on,” said MTG’s Peter Krasny, “but that will be released in the coming weeks. We are expecting the tribute to take place some time in January.”
In lieu of flowers, the MTG has requested that contributions be made to the Music-Theatre Group Fund for New Work, a fund currently being established.
This new fund, intended as an “endowment for the creation of new work” had been discussed among Lyn and her colleagues at MTG for many years. “It was discussed for a long time,” Krasny told Playbill On-Line, “but the capital campaign had never been done. We felt this would be an appropriate tribute to Lyn.” Those interested in making contributions to the “Music-Theatre Group Fund for New Work” can contact the Music-Theatre Group at 30 W. 26 St. Suite 1001, New York, NY, 10010.
