News Musical Comedy First Date Will Bow at Broadway's Longacre Theatre in Summer 2013 Tony Award-winning producer Junkyard Dog Productions (Memphis) announced March 7 that First Date, the new musical comedy that received a Seattle premiere co-produced by A.C.T. and the 5th Avenue Theatre, will open on Broadway Aug. 4 at The Longacre Theatre.

The work features a book by Austin Winsberg ("Gossip Girl"), with music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Secondhand Lions, Twice Charmed).

Bill Berry (producing director of The 5th Avenue Theatre), who helmed the world premiere, will direct the Broadway production, and Josh Rhodes (Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella) will choreograph. Preview performances will begin July 9.

Casting will be announced at a later date.

First Date, according to producers, "is Broadway's new musical comedy about the most dangerous human endeavor in existence, the dreaded blind date. When tightly wound Aaron is set up with cool girl Casey, a quick drink turns into a hilarious dinner served with sides of Google background checks, fake emergency phone calls, a slew of bad boy and uptown girl exes, and some seriously saucy chemistry. Set in a jaded city full of missed connections, their unpredictable evening unfolds in real time. Can this mismatched pair turn what could be a dining disaster into something special before the check arrives, or end up at another table for one?"

The creative team will include scenic designer David Gallo, costume designer David Woolard, lighting designer Mike Baldassari and sound designer Kai Harada. Musical supervision, vocal and incidental arrangements are by Dominick Amendum, and August Eriksmoen will orchestrate. First Date is produced by Junkyard Dog Productions (Randy Adams, Marleen and Kenny Alhadeff, Sue Frost), in association with Stem Productions, Susan W. and James C. Blair Family LP, Alex and Katya Lukianov, and Linda and Bill Potter.

The musical was originally co-produced by The 5th Avenue Theatre (David Armstrong, executive producer and artistic director; Bernadine Griffin, managing director, Bill Berry, producing director), and A Contemporary Theatre Seattle, WA (Kurt Beattie, artistic director, and Carlo Scandiuzzi, executive director).

Tickets for First Date are available March 18 through Audience Rewards and go on sale to the general public April 1 and can be purchased at Telecharge.com or by calling (212) 239-6200.
