News Musical of Musicals to Spread Out Across the Country The hit Off-Broadway production The Musical of Musicals—The Musical! will soon be seen in several cities around the country.

As previously announced, the musical will make its West Coast premiere this summer at the Laguna Playhouse. The Playhouse, in fact, will open its 85th season with the acclaimed Off-Broadway musical, which began life at the York Theatre Company before reopening at Dodger Stages Stage 5, where it now resides. Written by Eric Rockwell and Joanne Bogart, The Musical of Musicals will play the Laguna Playhouse July 5-Sept. 4 with an official opening July 9. No casting has been announced. The musical will also play the Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia in October 2005. Spring 2006 will see the musical open at both the Actors Playhouse in Coral Gables, Florida, and the San Francisco Playhouse in San Francisco. Additional productions in other U.S. cities are currently in discussion. Samuel French, Inc., has also secured the stock and amateur production rights and the publishing rights to the comical musical.

Featuring music by Rockwell, lyrics by Bogart and a book by Rockwell and Bogart, The Musical of Musicals is a satire of various musical theatre genres. One story is played five times, each in the style of a different musical theatre composer or team, including Rodgers and Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim and Kander and Ebb.
