News National Theatre Live Will Broadcast Alan Bennett's People, Starring Frances de la Tour National Theatre Live, an initiative to broadcast live performances from the National Theatre's stages to cinemas worldwide, will broadcast live performances of People, a new comedy by Alan Bennett, beginning March 21 throughout North America.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the work stars Frances de la Tour with Selina Cadell and Linda Bassett.

Here's how People is described: "People spoil things; there are so many of them and the last thing one wants is them traipsing through one's house. But with the park a jungle and a bath on the billiard table, what is one to do? Dorothy (de la Tour) wonders if an attic sale could be a solution."

In the New York City area, screenings will be held at NYU's Skirball Center (April 5 at 7 PM); Symphony Space (April 19 at 7 PM, April 21 at 1:30 PM and April 28 at 1:30 PM); Cinemas 1 2 3 (March 21 at 7 PM, March 24 at 2 PM); Kew Gardens Cinema (March 21 at 3 PM and 7 PM); The John Drew Theater, East Hampton (March 23 at 8 PM); and more.

People is the sixth of Bennett's plays to have its premiere at the National Theatre. Following its original run at the National Theatre, Bennett's The History Boys transferred to Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Play in 2006, and toured internationally before being turned into a film, again directed by Hytner and with a cast including de la Tour.

Bennett and Hytner also collaborated on the award-winning play and film The Madness of King George. Their last stage production, The Habit of Art, was broadcast as part of National Theatre Live in 2010. Since NT Live's first season in June 2009 with the acclaimed production of Phédre, starring Helen Mirren, over one million people have now experienced the National's work on movie screens worldwide.
