Polyester. No, it's not the John Waters film, but it still may be Divine. It's a musical revue saluting the style, songs and flared trouser legs of the 70's.
North Carolina's Cape Fear Regional Theatre will stage the show on its outdoor River Stage, (May 22-June 7) complete with a dinner selection that includes ribs and coolers.
The revue is not connected to John Waters' film comedy of the same name. In fact, this Polyester has been stitched together by Holden Thorp, author of CFRT's previous revue, Peace, Love and Rock n-Roll. Bo Thorp, CFRT's artistic director (and Holden's mother), directs.
Songs in the show include "Don't Stop" (Fleetwood Mac), "Crocodile Rock" (Elton John), "YMCA" (Village People), "Isn't She Lovely" (Stevie Wonder), and tunes from TV's Partridge Family and Brady Bunch shows. Author Thorp has also penned a couple of satirical numbers.
For tickets ($8-12 show only; $16-$20 w/dinner) and information on Polyester at River Stage, 1122 Person St. in Fayetteville, call (910) 323-4233. Closing the season will be the Duke Ellington revue, Sophisticated Ladies, June 12-28.
