Scandalios will be presented with The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award at a reception March 11 at Sardi's. The award, which was established in 1993, is given for "outstanding achievement in commercial theatre producing."

In a statement, CTI program director Jed Bernstein said, "Nick Scandalios' career at The Nederlander Organization involves the responsibility for the strategic, as well as day-to-day producing decisions of literally dozens of Broadway and road productions. Nick's combination of brains, taste and class are several of the same traits that made Robert Whitehead one of the theatre's most beloved producers. I'm sure Mr. Whitehead would be proud to have such a talented producer following in his footsteps."

Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, added, "We are delighted that Nick has been recognized with this prestigious and meaningful award. As an executive committee member of The Broadway League, we know how proud he is of his association with CTI. His dedication to Broadway, and his tireless efforts in encouraging a next generation of theatre professionals, makes this recognition well-deserved."

A joint project of The Broadway League and Theatre Development Fund, CTI — the nation's only formal training program for commercial theatre producers — was founded in 1981 by the late Frederic B. Vogel. The five-decade long career of the late Robert Whitehead inspired this award; previous recipients include Benjamin Mordecai, Dennis Grimaldi, Kevin McCollum, Randall L. Wreghitt, Marc Routh, Liz Oliver, Eric Krebs, Anne Strickland Squadron and David Binder.

Nick Scandalios is the executive vice president of the Nederlander Organization. He also serves on the executive committee of The Broadway League and on the Board of Trustees for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This year marks his 21st anniversary with the Nederlander Organization. Scandalios is a 1988 graduate of the CTI program.
