Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar share a road trip to attend the wedding of their son and daughter in Neil Simon's The Odd Couple II film, a sequel to his hit 1960s original about two old friends who make the mistake of moving in together after they get divorced. The new film opens in cinemas April 10. Walter Matthau, who played the sloppy sportswriter Oscar in the original 1964 Broadway The Odd Couple and again in the 1968 film, returns in that role. Jack Lemmon, who took over from Broadway's Art Carney as the fussy Felix in the movie, also returns in that role.
The film also brings on stage the long-suffering wives of the two central characters, with Doris Belack as Oscar's ex-wife, Blanche; and Ellen Geer as Felix's ex, Frances.
Also appearing in the film will be Christine Baranski, Mary Fogerty, Alice Ghostley, Barnard Hughes, Alfred Molina and Mary Beth Peil. Plus: Jonathan Silverman as Bruce Madison and Lisa Waltz as Hannah Ungar.
Paramount Pictures produced the sequel, which was directed by Howard Deutch and rated PG-13.
