Freedom's Song follows the story of Martha, a white Southern belle; Cyrus, a slave on a neighboring plantation; and their son Joshua. After escaping to the North, Cyrus is seized by slave catchers and taken back to the South, leaving his family to support themselves alone. Their struggle is intertwined with that of David, Sarah and Jeremiah, who are coping with their own personal tragedy on the eve of the war. When all of their paths collide, their lives are changed forever.
"They not only have to struggle with their own personal trials," state press notes, "but that of a country challenging the status quo and trying to break away from close minded, limiting beliefs and misguided hatred."
The ensemble for the reading includes Kimberly Faye Greenberg, Brian Childers, Ryan Rhue, Tim Hein, Tiffany Renee Thompson, Elora Rosch, Emily Mattheson, Rod Singleton, Yvette Bedgood, Geo Jones and Galyana Castillo.
