Produced and directed by Andrew Kato — who helmed the tenth anniversary concert version of Into the Woods — Diva Diaries will play the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The musical, which recently enjoyed a sold-out world premiere at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, will play the Broward July 24-Aug. 3. Producer/director Kato spoke to Playbill On-Line July 17 about the musical, explaining, "It's about the life of three drag queens through the seventies, eighties and nineties. It's their final performance, and they're putting on the make-up for the last time. [The musical] goes back through their lives [and] integrates pop music with a new score." Six actors portray the older and younger versions of these three friends who revisit their journey from disco to drag-queen veterans.
John Mercurio co-wrote the book with drag legend James O'Conner-Taylor. Mercurio also created the show's music and lyrics and conducts the four piece band.
Diva Diaries will play the Broward Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 and 10 PM and Sundays at 6 and 9 PM. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located in the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District at 201 SW Fifth Avenue.
